And, from Janet Guthrie:
Dear Bob,
Thanks for your email and especially for your postcard about the 50th anniversary of the SSSC&BDS. I can't tell you what a moment it was when I saw that familiar insignia from so long ago. It brought back vivid memories of the Ellenville Hillclimb, and of summer Sunday afternoon gymkhanas--SSSC&BDS events were always fast, like Solo competition now. And of course, the companionship that followed.
(I still have the handsome pewter mug that I won at the Conference of Long Island Sports Car Clubs trials at Bridgehampton in 1961. I think it was my first-ever trophy.)
How I wish I were able to be there for the 50th! But I was already committed to be in Williamsburg, VA, that weekend for the taping of a segment for PBS television. Please give my best regards to the current membership as well as to any members from those halcyon days of the early 1960s--
Sincerely,
Janet Guthrie |
